It's funny, the things that stick in your mind for nearly 50 years. I still remember seeing the movie that inspired this poem. Miss Minnie took us to the film room to see it, but I don't think she'd previewed it. The narrator kept referring to "typers" instead of "typists," she she talked about that for a several days.
